All my rain dancing paid off. Thursday afternoon, I began to celebrate the incoming storm that was forecast for Friday.  The few drizzles that we had… Read More

Finally … The Sun Shines

Saturday, January 12th, 2008
The sun is finally shining, soaking up all the rain and excess water. It feels good, warming both my body and spirit. Birds are flittering about, singing, chirping, happy. The chickadees come and go, making trips to the feeder and then back to the trees, no doubt, caching seeds for the "next time." It is Saturday, and I am tired from all the energy spent battling rainstorms, gutter cleaning, filling up gas cans and feeding a very hungry generator that kept us warm for days. Today, I am doing nothing. Well, except for this short blog post (our Internet service is back!) and a date that I made with my book, "Blackberry… Read More

Calm Before the Storm

Saturday, January 5th, 2008
Today, Bill and I made a quick escape out of the house and we headed to a local coffee bar with free Internet access. Due to the storms that hit the bay area over the past couple of days, we have been left without power. We’re visiting family in Southern Oregon, where it doesn’t snow very often. The last time I had seen snow in Grant’s Pass, Oregon was 5 years ago. And every year since then, I've wished for… Read More

Gray Day

Sunday, December 16th, 2007
Lanternthumb Today was a gray day. I don’t like gray days. On those days we are stuck between rain and sunshine, and I’d much prefer rain or sunshine. Instead, it felt like Mother Nature couldn’t make up her mind. Come to think of it, that is how I felt today, like I couldn’t make up my mind. I was tired. Do I read a book, watch TV, finish… Read More

Missing the Fall

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007
Fall_leaf Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the crisp, chilly air that smells of fireplaces raging with heat and wood-burning stoves. I love the smell of the early morning fog that drifts through the redwoods and pines where I live. I love the leaves that change color to brilliant hues of red, orange & gold. Falling leaves decorate everything… Read More
