She’s Alive!

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008
After a week of having a very bad flu I am resurfacing, hacking like a donkey (as anyone who sits within a mile of me will tell you), but at least alive and kicking. I should have known when the week before I caught the darned thing, I felt like I was ready to crawl into bed every day by 4:00 p.m.. But I remained clueless, until I awoke on a Tuesday morning with a 102 fever. I toughed it out on my own for two days before I gave in and went to the doctor. I did not bring my germs to work. I stayed home, and I like to think my colleagues appreciate it. Meanwhile,… Read More

Writer’s Block

Sunday, January 20th, 2008
Words. They fail me. They do not flow. Like my ideas, there is only the quiet. It feels somewhat like a stagnant pool of water. I've read that somewhere, sometime, during the life of a blog that the words will not come; they will fail and writer's block will prevail. And so we have come upon that time. I am feeling quiet, not wanting to share my voice. Have I lost my voice? Have I lost my love of writing and self expression? Maybe, for now, anyway. For the time being, I am lost in my internal ramblings and the thoughts of others, in both books and blogs. This will have to do. For now. Peace. Read More

Google Map Records High School Prank

Monday, January 14th, 2008
I suppose there is very little commentary I can offer for this blog post. Apparantly, Google Earth maps caught this high school football field prank on camera. Football field envy anyone? Finally … The Sun Shines

Saturday, January 12th, 2008
The sun is finally shining, soaking up all the rain and excess water. It feels good, warming both my body and spirit. Birds are flittering about, singing, chirping, happy. The chickadees come and go, making trips to the feeder and then back to the trees, no doubt, caching seeds for the "next time." It is Saturday, and I am tired from all the energy spent battling rainstorms, gutter cleaning, filling up gas cans and feeding a very hungry generator that kept us warm for days. Today, I am doing nothing. Well, except for this short blog post (our Internet service is back!) and a date that I made with my book, "Blackberry… Read More

New Year’s Resolutions … Are You on Track?

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008
So I’m wondering …how many of us have kept our New Years resolutions thus far and now that January 1st has passed? I found it interesting that articles cited that only 71% of people stick to resolutions after 2 weeks. Week by week, the stats grow smaller. I’m not keen about New Year’s resolutions. For the most part, I think resolutions are here today and gone tomorrow as the stats reveal. Plus, I can’t stand the term “New Year’s Resolution.” Does the term, “resolution” inspire you? It sure doesn’t inspire… Read More

Bay Area Storms: Or, My Own Private Rain Forest

Monday, January 7th, 2008
Truckthumb The rain began subtly, a few drops here and there; wind chimes clamored in the wind. Quite content, I was, Thursday afternoon when the rain changed from gentle to that of a downpour, hitting the skylights with fierce determination as if aiming for a hundred tiny bulls eyes. Not long afterward, the power went out. No worries, I thought, it… Read More

Calm Before the Storm

Saturday, January 5th, 2008
Today, Bill and I made a quick escape out of the house and we headed to a local coffee bar with free Internet access. Due to the storms that hit the bay area over the past couple of days, we have been left without power. Eventually we were able to secure a generator (long story), which provides us heat, refrigeration, running water and use of our toilets, all of which seem luxury items to us now. After a long drive yesterday, we found that all roads leading to our home were closed. Even the emergency road that we typically use was shut down due to downed power lines. We were able to finally get back home due to the help of a neighbor who opened… Read More
